Tampines Primary School (TPS) is poised for greater challenges in the future. In our efforts to strive to become a school of distinction, we are committed to nurture in our pupils a passion for learning, inculcate in them sound moral values and prepare them for an independent life-long learning journey. We engage our pupils in learning to learn and reflecting on their own learning styles and processes. Our pupils learn to draw beneficial conclusions about their own progress in learning.

Our teachers play a major role in accomplishing this mission. Thus, we are continuously developing and enabling our teachers to play this vital role effectively and efficiently. Collaborative structures are put in place to provide opportunities for our teachers to meet, collaborate and dialogue on implementing effective pedagogy. They explore and adopt innovative and creative pedagogical practices and differentiated teaching and learning practices within each class. We are a school that learns, believes and recognizes that we can learn with and from one another.

We provide a comprehensive and challenging academic programme that meets the learning needs of the different ability groups of pupils. Hence, we create a conducive school environment, which promotes passion for learning, acquisition of thinking skills and life-long independent learning habits. Innovative classrooms for P1 and P2 classrooms are created to provide opportunities and encourage teachers to carry out activity-based lessons where pupils are actively engaged in learning with and from one another. Pupils are taught to reflect how they arrive at their answers by indicating thinking processes applied in their written assignments. Acquisition of these intelligent behaviours and encouraging pupils to look for alternatives when they do not have an answer help equip pupils with skills to meet challenges in their life-long learning journeys. Systems are put in place to ensure that effective teaching learning processes permeate every aspect of our programmes, classroom instructions and the learning experiences that we strive to provide for our pupils.

Value education is promoted in all aspects of school life - instructional programmes and co-curricular activities. Our pupils adopt and practise three common school rules - "Take care of myself"; "Take care of one another"; "Take care of my school". Pupils are encouraged to reflect and monitor their own actions and behaviours in alignment with these rules. By embracing these three golden rules, pupils learn to be self-disciplined and self-motivated; taking full ownership of their pursuits in excellence. We also seek to develop a strong school and national spirit and culture for excellence by inculcating in pupils the desire to strive to exhibit values that align with the metaphor of the Tampines Tree and the school motto, and to constantly and consciously seize the day to excel. TPS adopts a set of beliefs, values and practices to nurture a mindset and climate for creativity and innovation among its staff and pupils. It is receptive to innovation, welcomes risk taking, and is tolerant of mistakes and failures. Innovation and creativity are integrated into the pupils' daily classroom lessons.

Nurturing I & E spirit is our school's corporate strategy as we explore tipping points in helping us to achieve our goals. Our staff is encouraged not only to work in the subject-specific committees but to identify areas of concern which interest them and make these their WIN (WITs and Innovation) projects. The staff shares, and grows ideas to innovate and create at their weekly level and staff meetings. An innovation room has also been created for staff. All P1 and P2 classrooms in the school have been transformed into vibrant learning centres for the implementation of strategies for effective and engaged development of P1 and P2 pupils. Teachers consciously create and provide opportunities for our pupils to nurture the I & E spirit in them during their daily classroom teaching learning activities. We aspire to be a model school where innovative pedagogy leverages on IT and integrating thinking skills and NE messages, happens within and beyond the boundaries of the classrooms.

TPS instils in pupils the importance of holistic education and the spirit to excel in the arts, sports and games. We promote pupils' active participation in co-curricular activities and integrates life skill learning, character building and leadership training in all co-curricular activities. We also promote appreciation for the aesthetics by encouraging pupil participation in aesthetics related activities and programmes both within and beyond the school. Leadership training and outdoor adventure camps are planned and conducted for P5 pupils and prefects. Pupils are given opportunities to develop leadership skills. They take turns to take on leadership roles while engaging in learning activities.

TPS and MOE corporate values and beliefs will act as a compass to guide us in our journey to realise our school mission and vision. We are dedicated to collaborate with all our stakeholders and the community in shaping the future generation of our nation and contribute to realising the Desired Outcomes of Education. We recognise our parents as partners and co-workers in making our pupils' learning journey exciting, stimulating, meaningful and purposeful. Together with our teachers, parents and pupils, we can create synergy that will propel us to scale greater heights to achieve our school vision and mission.
