Science
Science Explosion!
Science Mission
The Science Department aims to nurture in every child a sense of wonder andcuriosity in the world around them through a vibrant learning environment.
Pupils are developed to think and behave like young scientists. Through inquiry approach, pupils, being the inquirers, discover new knowledge with the teachers’ guidance as the facilitators to their learning.
Science is not taught in isolation. As Science is everywhere, we can see Science in our daily life, in the society and in the environment. By having the school as a learning tool, every pupil is given the opportunity to acquire scientific skills and knowledge and relate it to their everyday life. Pupils acquire the knowledge through these various means:
Play@work
Science is infused into STELLAR whereby P1 and P2 pupils acquire basic process skills like observing and comparing through some STELLAR topics related to Science.

Scientist@work (5E instructional model)
Science from P3 to P6 is taught using 5E instructional model. Pupils go through the Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate stages in the Science inquiry. Teachers become the facilitators to pupils’ learning where the pupils discover their knowledge and skills.

School as a Learning tool
Learning of Science is not limited to only inside the classrooms or Science rooms. Pupils are brought around the school compound for their Science lessons especially the ecogarden.

Science Experience Camp
Selected pupils got the opportunity to have Science camps at various locations based on their performance in Science examinations. Examples of places they went are Underwaterworld, Singapore Zoological gardens and Jurong Bird Park.

Go Green
Every year the school will have a week dedicated to show greater awareness in saving the Earth. This year the Go Green event was from 13th July to 16th July. Various activities were carried out for the pupils. It is part of the Science department’s effort to educate the pupils on environmental issues. With the knowledge obtained, the message can spread to their homes and ultimately to save the environment.

Experiential learning-Science field trips
Experiential learning serves as another tool to guide the pupils along in constructing meaning from facts. Before the trips, pupils’ curiosity is sparked by preparing them with what they are going to learn. Pupils will investigate and make connections of what they already know to what they learn during the field trips. After the trips, they carry on with research or activities to further enhance their understanding.

Young Einstein Programme
Selected pupils share some relevant ethics and attitudes of a scientist during the pre-assembly related to the activities they will be carrying out during recess. Their fellow schoolmates will get the chance to try the activities and understand the concepts behind these activities.

Science on the Move
Selected pupils are chosen to teach their peers from the same level either before a topic or as a consolidation after the topic is taught. This helps the pupils to showcase not only their knowledge in that particular topic but to lead and show confidence in teaching others. The other pupils like this programme as they can learn from their peers without fear.
