In Tampines Primary School, the Mathematics Department works towards nurturing Young Mathematicians who actively play the role of thinkers and problem-solvers, as well as, demonstrate confidence, accuracy, perseverance and self-motivation.

Anchoring on TPS Strategic Thrust 1 on Academic Excellence and MOE Mathematics Framework, the department uses Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract-Experiential approach to help the pupils develop their intellectual competence in logical reasoning, spatial visualisation, analysis and abstract thinking. Most importantly, we hope our pupils love and enjoy the learning of Mathematics.

In TPS, teachers seek to bring enjoyment and excitement in the learning of mathematics through activity-based lessons, authentic learning tasks and innovative teaching strategies. Teachers leverage on effective questioning which is used to stimulate pupils’ critical thinking and analytical skills.

In preparing our pupils in becoming problem-solvers, the school uses 4-Step Problem-Solving Approach and Heuristics and Model-drawing to help pupils in problem solving. In addition, we have Math Game Hot Hour and Math Carnival to induce fun in the learning of Mathematics through games and activities.
