| BIOGRAPHY |
The Tampines Primary School Children’s Choir founded in 1986 prides itself for being one of the most successful and reputable children's choir in Singapore. Its strengths and achievements include participation in and winning awards at the numerous national choral competitions over the years. In addition, the choir has done numerous recordings and performed in many concerts and opening ceremonies involving Singapore's ministers and foreign dignitaries. The choir also performs frequently at community service projects in Singapore.
Last year, the choir has participated in 2 major competitions, the SYF Central Judging and the World Choir Games in Graz, Austria, and has managed to win a Silver award in the SYF.
In 2000, the choir participated in the 1st Choir Olympics Competition in Linz, Austria and achieved a Silver Award. In Singapore, the choir clinched the Gold medal at the Singapore Youth Festival Competitions in 2002, 2000, 1997, 1995 & 1993, the Silver medal in 2004 & 1998. It won the Championship for the Sing Singapore Competitions in 1998 & 1992 and also won the Championship for the Singapore National Children's Song Competition in 1996. The choir, in 2001, was awarded the "Ambassador of the Arts - Music" Award by the Rotary Club of Singapore.
In 2003, it was indeed a privilege for the choir to be invited to record and perform the theme song for the SARs Commemoration Ceremony under the Ministry of Health, Singapore. It was also the recording choir for Singapore's National Day Parade Grand Finale in 1999 and for the World Trade Organisation Ministerial Conference in 1996. The angelic and melodious voices of the choir was also captured in its own music album "Lovely Paradise" in 1996 and in the Singapore National Arts Council music album in 1993.
Since 1992, the choir has been invited to perform at various functions such as the 1997 Asia Telecom Conference, 1999 World Conference on Model Cities, 2001 Corporate Community Games Gala Dinner (occasion was graced by the President of Singapore, Mr SR Nathan), 2001 Singapore National Day Observance Ceremony for Ministries, 2002 Welcoming of Mediterranean Dignitaries by Singapore Airlines & Singapore Tourism Board, 2002 Morgan Stanley & GIC Dinner, 2003 Swiss Alpine Festival and 2003 Visit to Singapore by the US President & First Lady.
In addition, the choir was selected as the Demonstration Choir for the 2000 Choral Master Class by Professor Rodney Eichenberger (USA), the 1999 Choral Workshop by Dr Margaret Pride (Australia) and the 1995 Choral Art Workshop by Sir Michael Brewer (Musical Director of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain).
Year 2004, Tampines Primary School Children’s choir has been invited and qualified again, as the only Singapore primary school to participate in the 3rd Choir Olympics Competition in Bremen, Germany, in July 2004. We are proud to emerge with a Top Silver Award in this world’s largest choral competition from 83 participating countries. One of the competition repertoires -- “The Soaring Eagle”, composed by our conductor Stella Goh Chiew Chin has been selected and introduced as a representation of original music in modern Asian landscape particularly that of Singapore, in the “Choral Directors Seminar” arranged by Musica Mundi Choral Academy in Germany. Locally, the choir is proud to be invited to perform for the National Day Parade 2004 Grand Finale. It has also been involved in the recording and MTV filming of the NDP theme song “Home” and this is the first time in NDP history children are performing a parade theme song on television. The choir is also selected by MOE to film both TV and Print media commercials for MOE Advertising Campaign 2004.
Tampines Primary School Children’s Choir, consisting of members aged 8 to 12, could not have attained or maintained its present standard of excellence without the talented musical directorship of Madam Stella Goh Chiew Chin, the Choir Conductress since 1986. Madam Stella Goh is also an accomplished music composer in Singapore and most of the choir’s repertoire is her own original compositions. |
